Program Highlights
Promoting Children’s Rights to Quality Primary Education
NRDS facilitate enrollment of the children’s from disadvantaged families in the formal or non-formal schools in the remote char areas. NRDS is facilitating 3 experimental community primary schools established by the community and 25 non-formal children education centers in char areas aiming at developing children centered learning approach to achieve quality primary education for all.

A multilevel campaign and advocacy to build the capacity of civil society initiatives at local level to national level is underway to achieve quality primary education for all. NRDS conducts studies on the educational situation and publishes people’s reports as an advocacy tool.

Institution building for Sustainable Livelihood
NRDS is working with Village Organization-VOs and Farmers Associations in promoting livelihood opportunities for its members. NRDS provide assistance in training, technical support and support to promote market access. NRDS organizes campaign for right to food and food sovereignty issues at local level and national level. Village organization and Farmers Association are also facilitated to interact with local government bodies to have access to public services effectively.

Promoting Household Food Security
NRDS facilitate farmers to enable them for identification and proper utilization of household resources for the year around farming, which finally enable farmers to improve household food security. The farm families are provided training on integrated household agricultural activities along with opportunities of experience sharing, technology transfer among the farm families. The program is promoting production and income of families by utilizing low input sustainable agricultural techniques.

Promoting Human Rights and Participatory Governance
Studies on the human right situation are carried out to inform and sensitize civil society groups. Human rights education is imparted through the people’s organization at grassroots level along with campaign program to promote human rights and good governance. Civil Society Watch Groups are facilitated at local level to protest violation of human rights. Cultural Actions and Mobilization Cultural actions have been utilized as important tools to aware and mobilize people and their organizations to achieve sustainable livelihood. A Popular Theater team of NRDS perform collective actions with community groups on various issues, especially to resist discrimination and violence against women.

Gender Equity and Women’s Rights
Various activities on Gender equality is designed to sensitize the program participants, both male and female for changing attitude towards new gender roles. GAD principles and values are promoted through the training so that the participants can build up a supportive environment in their family and society. To monitor and resist any forms of violence against women, Village watch groups are organized at grass- root level including a legal support system for victims. The organization is hosting secretariat of District Committee for Stoop Violence against women and also facilitating mobilization against violence in the area.

Poultry and Livestock Development
NRDS provided training on poultry management including improved technology and technical support through the Smallholders Livestock Development Project of GoB and Danida towards marginalized and the poorest of the poor families. A total of 16,000 families in 4 Upazillas are benefited through poultry and livestock rearing activities.

Aquaculture Extension
Marginalized families having access to water resources have been provided training and technical support for poly- culture including prawn culture through the Greater Noakhali Aquaculture Extension Project of GoB and Danida. A total of 10,000 families are engaged in pond fish farming and having extensive income from the activities.

Promoting safe water, sanitation and hygiene
NRDS works to ensure right to safe water for the poor and marginalized families in the area where arsenic contamination in shallow tube- well generated high risk on people’s life. A participatory and demand driven approach is followed, in promoting water, sanitation and hygiene promotional activities.

Employment Creation trough Micro-credit
Savings and micro- credit activities have reached a total of 35, 000 borrowers for income and employment generative activities. Marginalized people in poverty especially women- folk from families in poverty are the partner of the microfinance program of NRDS. The program has reached the institutional self sustainability to continue microfinance as one of the tools for poverty eradication through income generation.
Promoting Fair Trade
Promoting Fair Trade
NRDS provides skill development training on crafts and supports them further through timely supply of raw materials and marketing. The artisans mostly women work in their homestead and supplement their family income for better livelihood. The products are mainly jute products, grass products, weaving and garment products and made from locally available raw materials like jute, grass leaf, cotton yarn etc. NRDS is an active partner of fair trade movement.
Partnership and Networking
Poverty has structural causes which needs comprehensive and coordinated effort. NRDS is working with other development organizations, civil society groups, forming coalition and alliances to fight poverty and all forms of social deprivation and injustice. NRDS has a leading role in building alliances at national and regional level, which includes; Campaign for Good Governance and Ecota Fair Trade Forum at national level and International Fair Trade Association – IFAT and Global Call to Action Against Poverty – GCAP at international level.
